The Mill Hill Rd house was a big, crumbling warren of seedy bedsits. Subsidence in the area gave most rooms big cracks in the walls and ceilings. It had a nice big garden at the back where we would practice catapult. Marney, the landlord, had two more houses on St Stephens and he made a good few quid out of us unemployed layabouts
